I enjoy my friendships; friends keep me going.
I raised three sons (one set of twins). They loved sports; and I practiced with them in our big backyard and attended all their league games. I was a middle school PE teacher for five years, a housewife after I retired from my first five years of teaching, and a teacher assistant for 19 years.
Played soccer for 15 years, and kept active through many pursuits including tennis, golf, racquetball, pickleball, running 5K’s, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking 14ers, and senior basketball. Interests include wood carving, rooting for the Rockies and Broncos, collecting Bobbeheads and now giving them away, volunteering for Open Space and a Senior Counseling Organization.
Favorite Peach Story: When our founder Chloe Childers saw me playing on another team and wanted me to play for her team when I turned 70, which was the minimum age back then.

Enjoys walking/hiking, cycling, reading, travel, recreational pickleball (thank you Cathy H and Pat from the Fieldhouse for recruiting me and Carolyn for the Peaches!!)
Peaches from my perspective: As someone with virtually no experience playing softball, I attended my first practice last year thinking I’d just watch and see if this was even do-able for me. But before I knew it, I was out there running around on the field, learning the rudiments of the game. I haven’t looked back since!
I’ve found the Peaches to be an incredibly welcoming, accepting, talented, and above all fun group of women, and I’m honored to be a part of the team!

In high school I played basketball and tennis and ran track. I’ve bowled in a league for more than 15 years, skied in Colorado and Montana, tried out curling, and golfed at St. Andrews in Scotland.
I’m interested in trying things I’ve never done and taking on new challenges – like storytelling, playing softball, owning property for my hair salon at such a young age, traveling to Europe, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa del Sol in Tangiers, and sitting on boards for Denver Health and Adelante Mujer.
Enjoy: attending Daily Mass and doing Daily Catholic Reading, gardening, remodeling, entertaining, reading biographies of famous leaders, entertainers and athletes, spending time with friends on beaches in Hawaii and Mexico, and doggy-sitting for my grandkids.
Favorite Peaches story: Maggie was a client at my hair salon. She would tell me that she loved playing softball with women that are supportive and that it is great receiving a gold medal at the Senior Olympics. She did this for three years! I retired and I had never played softball. I looked forward to trying something I had never done before. I love the Peaches team!

As a Registered Nurse, I was an infection Control Practitioner in a large suburban medical center, and I discovered several cases of Rubella in the newborn nursery. We had to isolate, discharge, and divert all those who were affected or possibly affected. We immunized staff, parents, patients, and closed the nursery. I have never seen so many men faint before! No women, though! We lost no one.
As an Army brat, I moved 13 times before H.S. including three foreign countries; speaking a language my parents didn’t understand (Japanese); speaking another, German, fluently and translating for my parents; traveling all over Europe in an old Army tent and getting woken up by the cows because we were in their path in Switzerland. Oh, I was not allowed in the women’s restroom at the World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium, because the attendant thought I was a boy. I never had another pixie cut! Then, in Denver we moved one block down the street. My 6’3 brother had the couch on his head, I was carrying couch cushions, and my cat followed behind.
I enjoy gardening, cooking, horseback riding, projects around the house, pets, and helping others.

I’ve been a competitive bowler winning many tournaments and prizes over many decades. Won the gold medal at National Senior games in Tucson in 1997, setting a record for my age group 631. Represented the Washington Metropolitan Area in the BPAA National Ladies Doubles Tournament in the mid 1960’s playing against women pros from all over the world. Won the metropolitan area senior tournament after a 2-year layoff for health reasons, setting a record.
I first picked up softball in my teens when a recreation department leader asked me to play fast pitch with an adult recreation team. When I went to college and my university had no competitive athletics for women, I continued to play for the adult team until I suffered a left leg injury which at the time ended my athletic career. I picked up softball again playing on a work team some 20 years later. Learned about senior softball in the late 1990’s, asked to join a coed team, played with women who asked me to join the Maryland Classics team (60+ in 2000). I have also worked as an administrator for softball leagues in the DC area and for the Maryland Senior Olympics.
Favorite Peach Story: A devastating disease challenged me, but I was determined to try to keep playing. I saw several persons I admired with whom I always wanted to play on the Peaches team. I got invited to play with the Peaches; met Gail, who helped me restore my confidence and gave me several suggestions to work on, and the rest is history. Love it.

I chased this for 10 years – successfully four years, unsuccessfully four year and two years it was cancelled, during the event, due to weather.
From my races, I’ve learned the day of the event is great, but satisfaction and pride come from the months of preparation and practice to get there.

I love the natural world; and I have explored, enjoyed, and absorbed it via hiking, backpacking, scuba diving, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and canoeing. The Minnesota Boundary Waters…ahh…canoe trekking at its finest, listened to loons in the night air, watched beaver and otters playing, portaged between lakes, glided on still waters, and kept going no matter the wind, waves, or rain. Because the sun always shined again. Explored canyons in Utah, hiked among Saquaro in Arizona, climbed 14ers, and crawled through caves.
I am a Life-long Learner. Most importantly about developing myself as a person, as well as learning several professions. From Chicago, I moved to the rural Blue Ridge mountains – it was the 1970s hippy, get-back-to-nature thing to do – complete with guitar and banjo picking front porch gigs. Took a motorcycle trip through Wisconsin in the Fall – went to see the colors, but also learned how to ride in snow… Dabbled in wood working – made lamps from downed trees; a table lamp from a beaver chewed stump, very cool indeed; another from an uprooted aspen tree, gorgeous wood grain. Lived on a small urban farm for 14 years – chickens, burros, goats, dogs, cats. I always marveled how lucky I was to be riding a burro bareback in my own yard in town or burro trekking in the mountains on weekends.
As a professional, I started as a Registered Dental Hygienist; went back to school to learn electronics and became a Certified Quality Engineer; then went on to a graduate program in Biometrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, spending the final 25 years as a Biostatistician/Data Scientist including medical research, clinical trials design and analysis, and public health research. I was the first and only female Journeyman Process Control Instrument Mechanic (the guys called me Journeybroad). As recognition of this, I was interviewed by and appeared in Women’s Day magazine.
I have always been into recreational sports: racquetball, pickleball, volleyball, softball. Two friends and I started our own Denver Rec women’s slowpitch team in 1978 and kept it going for 25 + years. Have played the accordion since I was 6 years old. There’s nothing like a polka to get people smiling.
I am graced with a wonderful partner, Jan.
Peaches from my perspective: The Peaches advertised for younger players to help them practice. I answered that ad, began going to their practices, and found a joyful, fun-loving group of active women. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the Peaches! I grew up in SW Denver. My mom didn’t drive a car and so I had to walk or ride a bike everywhere. There was a bowling alley nearby. I took it up and became a good bowler. I was also a good skier prior to having kids. I played coed softball with my husband for Denver General and Denver Fire in my 20s and 30s.
Worked at Denver General, now Denver Health for 18 ½ years in medical records for 2 ½ years and the rest in the emergency room as a ward clerk at the front desk. When my three daughters went to college, I went to travel school and got a job at Globus Tours. I worked there for 18 ½ years and travelled the world. They paid for one trip a year!
I’ve always had wanderlust. I moved out prior to the end of high school, married at 21 and my three children have blessed me with seven grandchildren. Going through a divorce was my biggest challenge. I still like to travel when possible, and I like meeting and talking with almost anyone, everyone has a story. Every day, I am still learning! I love the challenge of playing softball. Good for the brain and the body.
Favorite thing about the Peaches: I’ve known about the Peaches for a long time. As I was turning 70 and things were slowing down for me, I sought out the Peaches and ran into my friend and now fellow Peach, Gail, who introduced me. I love the camaraderie and diversity. Everyone is so interesting, kind, and thoughtful.

My older brother put a glove on my hand as soon as I was able to hold one. He wanted a playmate to play catch with him. I played in a youth league until I was 11 and then summer camp got in the way. I did play on a church team until I went to camp in the summer.
I enjoyed intermural sports in high school. My favorite sport was field hockey and I also played basketball and volleyball. Softball was not offered in high school.
I helped coach my daughters fast pitch team. I helped in all aspects and the male coaches really appreciated having a mom in the dugout helping with injuries (primarily from sliding😊.) Those girls knew how to pitch!
I was an accountant for the Arabian Horse Assoc. I am now retired. I was so fortunate to spend time with horse people and go to many horse shows.
Peaches from my Perspective:
I love being a Peach! I have never been on a team with so much inclusivity. We are there to get better and learn more about the game, but we are also there to have fun and cheer each other on. It makes me feel like a kid again. I just love putting on my glove and heading out to the field! I also love singing our songs and feeling so SATISFIED!!!!!

Taught Junior High/Middle School students for 31 years as a Physical Education teacher, Student Advisor and Assistant Principal. I loved teaching those kids. They are so full of energy and eager to learn.
Used to play shortstop and second base, but mobility issues don’t allow me to play those positions any longer. I’m naturally a right-handed hitter but now bat left-handed. When I was 15 years old, I played second base on a men’s baseball team. After arriving in Denver, I coached 8-15 year old girls softball during the summer.
I’ve always been athletic and very competitive, but a good sport even when I lose. Basketball was my sport in high school and part of college, playing semi-pro in 1956-1957 for a team in Lexington, Missouri. For the past 50 plus years, I’ve been a timekeeper for the local high schools and the Colorado State High School basketball championship tournament. I played league golf until recently and spent over 25 years playing tennis on the National Senior Women’s tennis circuit, traveling to different states and overseas, going to Poertschach Austria in 2018 for the Friendship Cup. Hip surgery has prevented me from being competitive at that level. Thank goodness for the Peaches softball team giving me an opportunity to remain competitive.
Favorite thing about the Peaches: I love the camaraderie the Peaches have as a team, so inclusive.

Today I am happily working at the Bookies Bookstore. I love coming in to work every day. Many, many friends and acquaintances from past years in Denver are customers. We nurture generations of readers, and it is fun! Previously, I was as a school librarian, PE teacher, computer teacher, working alongside my husband in Cherry Creek schools as well as at St. Anne’s, and I stayed at home for ten years to get the kids off to a good start.
Attended Skidmore College earning a PE degree. Upon graduation I was hired to work at Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School in DC, and had the opportunity to meet parent volunteer Madeline Albright and be asked by Joan Kennedy to provide a two week “summer excursion” experience for her daughter and friends. I moved to Denver and earned a degree in Special Education at DU. I still am honored to serve on committees for Skidmore and sit on several local boards.
Won ping-pong championship during my 8th grade summer, voted most athletic in 9th grade, and won the regatta at Cape Cod Sea Camps in 1962. Have also completed five Ride the Rockies with “Bad Betty’s riding group”, earning the nickname Road Hog.
Favorite things about the Peaches: Our, then 92-year-old, inspiration asked me to be with her on Coors Field when she threw out the ceremonial first pitch, caught by Dinger. A finer group of women I have never met. There is never a discouraging word, only encouraging shouts of “nice swing” or “good try”.

Worked for City and County of Denver for 20 years, State of Colorado one year, and for myself as a construction subcontractor with my husband for 30 years.
I played basketball as a junior and senior in high school. I was too short – kept getting slam-dunked on my head. When I was 21, a good friend who was a great softball player invited me to show up for practice. It was fastpitch and we had a very hands-on coach who taught me the basics of the game. I loved to steal bases! Softball is in my blood. I taught myself how to pitch. I have played as much as I could on rec center teams and then on a Senior League CSSA team up until Covid. It has become a family affair as my daughter played, and my granddaughter still plays. My husband and I coached a 14-year-old Perl Mack Girls team, who started out knowing nothing and ended up with zero losses on the season and won the state championship.
Every day is a life experience. My current challenge is helping my brother fight prostate cancer and everything else that faces us.
Softball is my hobby. My interest is helping the elderly, and us all. Doing all I can do to help. Grandchildren are my inspiration to continue to live as long as God lets me. This Peaches time of year is special to me as I age and gives me more time to “freshen up” along with my fellow players. Love all of you!
Favorite Peach Story: My God sent us Maggie. She led the way, and I am so glad I met her. This gave me the biggest opportunity to meet the Colorado Peaches. What a blessing. Thank you, Maggie

Favorite Peaches Story: The day I saw a segment on Channel 9 News about the Peaches, calling Maggie, meeting her for the first time, looking up to the older Peaches, couldn’t believe it. I always feel so grateful to be a Peach, running out onto the field to play ball! Such an exciting feeling.

When I was younger, I was willing to try a sport (unless it was scary). I have played tennis, golf, softball, field hockey, and run in a half marathon. Now I primarily walk, trying to get close to 10,000 steps most days. I lost my husband in 2016 and my mother in 2020. I miss them both very much. I have two children, a boy and a girl who were born in 1994, and at this time they both live in Denver. I feel that I am blessed with a wonderful life.
My professional career began in the information systems consulting division at Arthur Andersen & Co., where I worked for ten years. Then I decided to work in non-profit management, which I did for the next 30 years. I was an executive for the agency that is now called Florence Crittenton Services of Colorado for 20 years, then spent three years working for a cancer support organization, then seven years working as the Financial and Benefits Officer for the Mountain Sky Conference of The United Methodist Church.
I started playing bridge a couple of years ago, which is both fun and challenging. I enjoy working in the yard, gardening, wandering around antique shops and refinishing furniture. I am a traveler and try to take at least one international trip a year.
As a member of Cherry Creek Storytellers, I tell stories monthly to first graders. I volunteer at my local elementary school two mornings a week, helping kids with reading. I am a volunteer driver through the DAV, driving veterans to and from medical appointments at the VA Medical Center in Aurora. I am a member of the Denver Mile High Rotary Club, where I serve in several different volunteer capacities and participate in numerous community service projects.
Peaches from my perspective: I find being a member of the Peaches to be very inspiring and uplifting, not just because it is a group of senior women who have made a commitment to be active. The group is so encouraging and understanding, and everyone does the best that they can, which I want to do too.

I am told that I picked up a baseball and asked my grandfather to play catch at age two. I started playing organized baseball in Morrison, IL when a friend, with whom I played back yard ball, suggested I try out. This was in 1977. He got me the registration form, it was dropped off at the barber shop, we walked down to tryouts, and I was drafted onto an A league team.
Played Little League baseball (4th through 7th grade) on the White Sox (playing on a town all-star team three of the four years) and Pony League baseball (8th and 9th grade) with the Cardinals and Cubs. For several years was the bat “boy” and scorekeeper for the American Legion team, Paul’s Prestos. We lived nearly across the street from the American Legion field and many a midwestern evening was spent with my dad pitching (often attempting his knuckleball and acting as Stan the Man or the Splendid Splinter at the plate,) my mom hitting ground balls, and my brother and I practicing all things baseball.
My organized softball journey got underway when a friend knocked on our door one 4th of July and asked if I would play in a softball tournament….ah right now, today down at the Little League field. Began playing league slow-pitch with the Palominos, Schuler’s Sluggers and town women’s traveling team in 8th grade. Played with first co-ed team in the summer of 1982. Moved to TX and switched to fast-pitch playing for the San Antonio Hurricanes (10th-12th grade.) First year college summer played with the Irving (TX) Raiders, second year college summer with the Afton (MO) Marooners, and one year post college with the St. Paul (MN) Raiders.
Began playing slow-pitch again during college junior summer with Milady’s (Faribault, MN.) Continued to play with this team as the name changed to Matrix, Taco Johns, Downtown Faribault Merchants and then back to Milady’s. This team was renowned at Fireman’s in Bloomington, was consistently successful at Dawn, Terry, (and Stacey’s) in Owatonna, and was almost always ranked in the top 10 in the state as reported in “Let’s Play Softball.” Remained with this team until its retirement in 1995, played coed in Chanhassen with friends from Milady’s in 1996, in which season I hit the only cycle of my career!
Took a four-year break from playing ball when moved to CO to pursue Ph. D. degree. In 2001, began playing women’s ball in Longmont for a variety of teams, most frequently with the Psycho Chicks, began playing coed in 2002, and have continued to play, as I can, in Longmont, Loveland and Boulder. For ten years, 2005 and 2010-2019, played on the womens Playball Bunnies and variably named coed teams in Izzy Crouse’s Softball for Cure Tournament, being a recipient of support in 2009 when going through treatment for breast cancer. Currently play coed on Izzy’s Tenacious Turtles and CSSA Wednesday morning traveling team the Boulder Blues.
Played basketball 5th through 9th grade (there was no girls team at Alamo Heights High School at the time,) volleyball 9th through 12th grade, competed in track and field as a sprinter, relay runner, and discus thrower 6th grade through 9th grade, added throwing the shot put in 12th grade. Also “lettered” in band for the saxophone in 11th grade, playing tenor in jazz band as well as alto in marching and concert during 9th and 11th grades.
Attended NCAA Division III Carleton College (MN) playing volleyball, basketball, and softball all four years. Was all-conference honorable mention as a first-year player, all-conference sophomore, junior and senior years, and academic all-conference senior year in softball. Received the Special Team Award in both basketball and softball senior year. Also received the Ele Hansen Award for 1989.
After graduation, remained at Carleton as an assistant coach in basketball and softball 1989-1991. Coached 8th grade volleyball in Faribault in 1989 and was head JV Volleyball coach at Carleton 1990-1991 and 1993-1995. Served as interim head softball coach in 1992. Assisted at Albion College (MI) in 1995. Also volunteered at the college and high school levels during the transitions to both of my graduate degrees. During my post college time in MN, I worked at the Faribault Recreation Center as head of aquatics, including leading seniors pool workouts, 1989-1992. I was also the head of summer beginner ball (post kindergarten), tee ball (first grade), softtpich (second and third grade), and girl’s fastpitch (4th through 7th grade) 1990-1996. In 2019, I was inducted into Carleton’s ‘C’ Club (athletics) Hall of Fame.
Enjoy traveling, especially to National Parks, camping, tandem kayaking, advanced beginner skiing, and attending live music and theatre. Have made it to the top of two 14ers. In 2025, along with Priscilla, completed the canon – seeing all 38 of Shakespeare’s plays. We’re currently working on August Wilson’s Century Cycle – 5 seen, 5 to go – and have recently taken up going to the opera. My brother’s family lives overseas and I visit Hans, Jen, Katja and Zoe each summer at my mom’s house in IL.
Favorite Peaches Story: Thank you Chloe for sharing your number with me. I have never been as nervous as I was the morning of coaching my first Peaches 79+ team games at the Huntsman tournament in 2022. I woke up and was like, what is this queasy feeling…oh that’s nerves. It is such an honor to be a Peach, to be a part of something so deeply meaningful along with all these amazing women (and men.) Peaches 4 Ever.

In 8th grade I played softball on a team coached by my Dad. I loved it! In high school I was a baton twirler. As an adult, I enjoyed skiing on the East Coast and then I discovered the Rocky Mountains and Colorado! Tennis was an early “love” and continues to be today as a spectator.
I was an elementary school teacher for 30 plus years. Most of my career was spent in Fairfax County, VA teaching 4th grade. The kids were great, and my fellow teachers remain some of my closest friends today.
Favorite thing about being a Peach: Although, I’ve only been a Peach for a short time, it is quite obvious that this group of women are friendly, kind, and supportive.

Played basketball in high school, independent since girls couldn’t play then.
I took up tennis when I was 35 & did very well with that. In fact, it took me all over the world, including South Africa, Great Britan and Spain, for almost 20 years. In 2004, accomplished the “Gold Slam” in doubles, winning all four USTA National Championships on different surfaces – indoor, clay, grass and hard court – in the same calendar year. Represented the United States in numerous international competitions, on the Alice Marble Cup Team and captaining the US Kitty Godfree Cup Team. In 2005, won the Fiesta Bowl Scottsdale Senior Open, 6-1, 6-3 in the semis and 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the finals. Was inducted into the Colorado Tennis Hall of Fame in 2008.
I have many Peaches connections. Met Suzy & we played doubles together for a while. I belong to the same tennis club as Bonnie & competed with Sue in doubles in 2019 in the 80+ age division at the USTA National Women’s 50, 60, 70 & 80 Hard Court Championships in La Jolla, CA losing in the quarters 5-7, 6-3, 3-6.
I sometimes hack around at golf & can’t play tennis anymore since I have arthritis, so I’ve taken up Pickleball. What fun!!!
That’s my story 😎
Favorite thing about the Peaches: I have a very short history in Softball. In fact, I’ve never played before, and I know I’m going to like Softball.
