Long distance running and boxing foster focus on the self. Ran the Chicago Marathon twice in the city I love. Ran half marathons and 12K races between 1983 and 2003. Took up boxing in 2017, and I love how it engages the whole body, mind, and senses.
Playing on a team is such a different challenge because all the characters need to work together. When I joined the Peaches, I was truly a rookie. I had never played on a team. I needed to learn what I knew about throwing, catching, swinging to hit the ball, running the bases and what I didn’t. I needed to learn to work with a coach and a team manager. I learned about the coaching and managing roles through observing Chloe and Vernie.
When it appeared the team would disband, Raquel and I said, “Who wants to keep going?” We got six yeses. We kept the team showing up and playing at Huntsman for two years.
Then Coach Klock arrived and was with us for five years. I’m still learning every day.

I love the natural world; and I have explored, enjoyed, and absorbed it via hiking, backpacking, scuba diving, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and canoeing. The Minnesota Boundary Waters…ahh…canoe trekking at its finest, listened to loons in the night air, watched beaver and otters playing, portaged between lakes, glided on still waters, and kept going no matter the wind, waves, or rain. Because the sun always shined again. Explored canyons in Utah, hiked among Saquaro in Arizona, climbed 14ers, and crawled through caves.
I am a Life-long Learner. Most importantly about developing myself as a person, as well as learning several professions. From Chicago, I moved to the rural Blue Ridge mountains – it was the 1970s hippy, get-back-to-nature thing to do – complete with guitar and banjo picking front porch gigs. Took a motorcycle trip through Wisconsin in the Fall – went to see the colors, but also learned how to ride in snow… Dabbled in wood working – made lamps from downed trees; a table lamp from a beaver chewed stump, very cool indeed; another from an uprooted aspen tree, gorgeous wood grain. Lived on a small urban farm for 14 years – chickens, burros, goats, dogs, cats. I always marveled how lucky I was to be riding a burro bareback in my own yard in town or burro trekking in the mountains on weekends.
As a professional, I started as a Registered Dental Hygienist; went back to school to learn electronics and became a Certified Quality Engineer; then went on to a graduate program in Biometrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, spending the final 25 years as a Biostatistician/Data Scientist including medical research, clinical trials design and analysis, and public health research. I was the first and only female Journeyman Process Control Instrument Mechanic (the guys called me Journeybroad). As recognition of this, I was interviewed by and appeared in Women’s Day magazine.
I have always been into recreational sports: racquetball, pickleball, volleyball, softball. Two friends and I started our own Denver Rec women’s slowpitch team in 1978 and kept it going for 25 + years. Have played the accordion since I was 6 years old. There’s nothing like a polka to get people smiling.
I am graced with a wonderful partner, Jan.
Peaches from my perspective: The Peaches advertised for younger players to help them practice. I answered that ad, began going to their practices, and found a joyful, fun-loving group of active women. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the Peaches! Being a Peach means you have community, acceptance, FUN, support, and purpose.

Earned a degree in microbiology, rode horses in speed events in “Little Britches,” former ski instructor at Breckenridge and world traveler in the off-season; worked in protein biochemistry research, computer hardware and software troubleshooting, and school IT support. FAVORITE job – stay-at-home Mom for 15 years!
Being a Peach has pumped life back into my body. In my rookie year, I learned how to play the game and move. Now I feel I can run, and my strength is improving for batting and throwing. You CAN teach an old Peach new tricks.
Favorite Peach Story: Once when Maggie and I were practicing for her Rockies game pitch, three kids asked me if we really played softball. I confirmed and mentioned that Maggie was going to throw out the first pitch for the game. For fun, I asked them to guess her age. They promptly said, 73. They then asked my age. Again, I asked them to guess. This time, the prompt, certain guess was 74. They knew at this point that Maggie was turning 92 the next week.
It feels like recess every time I am with Maggie. So happy to be a Peach!
Charlotte created and maintains the Colorado Peaches Fieldofourown.com website. She is thrilled to help in this capacity as she thinks it guarantees a spot on the team.

Enjoys walking/hiking, cycling, reading, travel, recreational pickleball (thank you Cathy H and Pat from the Fieldhouse for recruiting me and Carolyn for the Peaches!!)
Peaches from my perspective: As someone with virtually no experience playing softball, I attended my first practice last year thinking I’d just watch and see if this was even do-able for me. But before I knew it, I was out there running around on the field, learning the rudiments of the game. I haven’t looked back since!
I’ve found the Peaches to be an incredibly welcoming, accepting, talented, and above all fun group of women, and I’m honored to be a part of the team!

I enjoy my friendships; friends keep me going.
I raised three sons (one set of twins). They loved sports; and I practiced with them in our big backyard and attended all their league games. I was a middle school PE teacher for five years, a housewife after I retired from my first five years of teaching, and a teacher assistant for 19 years.
Played soccer for 15 years, and kept active through many pursuits including tennis, golf, racquetball, pickleball, running 5K’s, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking 14ers, and senior basketball. Interests include wood carving, rooting for the Rockies and Broncos, collecting Bobbeheads and now giving them away, volunteering for Open Space and a Senior Counseling Organization.
Favorite Peach Story: When our founder Chloe Childers saw me playing on another team and wanted me to play for her team when I turned 70, which was the minimum age back then.

As a Registered Nurse, I was an infection Control Practitioner in a large suburban medical center, and I discovered several cases of Rubella in the newborn nursery. We had to isolate, discharge, and divert all those who were affected or possibly affected. We immunized staff, parents, patients, and closed the nursery. I have never seen so many men faint before! No women, though! We lost no one.
As an Army brat, I moved 13 times before H.S. including three foreign countries; speaking a language my parents didn’t understand (Japanese); speaking another, German, fluently and translating for my parents; traveling all over Europe in an old Army tent and getting woken up by the cows because we were in their path in Switzerland. Oh, I was not allowed in the women’s restroom at the World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium, because the attendant thought I was a boy. I never had another pixie cut! Then, in Denver we moved one block down the street. My 6’3 brother had the couch on his head, I was carrying couch cushions, and my cat followed behind.
I enjoy gardening, cooking, horseback riding, projects around the house, pets, and helping others.
Favorite thing about the Peaches: They aren’t hesitant to tell you their age, and they are the most positive women I have ever met!

My older brother put a glove on my hand as soon as I was able to hold one. He wanted a playmate to play catch with him. I played in a youth league until I was 11 and then summer camp got in the way. I did play on a church team until I went to camp in the summer.
I enjoyed intermural sports in high school. My favorite sport was field hockey and I also played basketball and volleyball. Softball was not offered in high school.
I helped coach my daughters fast pitch team. I helped in all aspects and the male coaches really appreciated having a mom in the dugout helping with injuries (primarily from sliding😊.) Those girls knew how to pitch!
I was an accountant for the Arabian Horse Assoc. I am now retired. I was so fortunate to spend time with horse people and go to many horse shows.
Peaches from my Perspective:
I love being a Peach! I have never been on a team with so much inclusivity. We are there to get better and learn more about the game, but we are also there to have fun and cheer each other on. It makes me feel like a kid again. I just love putting on my glove and heading out to the field! I also love singing our songs and feeling so SATISFIED!!!!!
